Graduate Study
The CBD does not grant degrees. Its faculty, students, and postdocs come from
a variety of traditional and new interdisciplinary programs throughout the
university. Students wishing to participate in the CBD should apply to one of
the related departments listed below and include in the application a statement
of interest in the CBD. Those interested in involvement with the CBD as a Postdoctoral Fellow should
check the pages of the related programs for employment opportunities. Positions
sponsored directly by the CBD will be announced on this site if they become
available.
Traditional departmental programs associated with the CBD are:
Related interdisciplinary programs are:
- Program in Mathematical and Computational
Neuroscience (PMCN). This is a new non-degree program recently established under an award from
the Burroughs Wellcome Fund. Its mission is to facilitate the transition of
those trained in mathematics and physical sciences to work in the
neurosciences. Ph.D students associated with the PMCN get degrees in
Neurosciences (see PIN below) or the Department
of Biomedical Engineering. Postdocs associated with the PMCN can be in the
Departments of Biology,
Biomedical Engineering,
Mathematics or
Psychology. The senior faculty of the
PMCN includes six members of the CBD, and CBD activities are central to the
PMCN program.
- Program in Neuroscience (PIN). The PIN is a newly established Ph.D granting program that brings together a
large number of faculty from the Charles River and Medical campuses of Boston
University. PIN is designed to have both computational and experimental
components.
- Bioinformatics. This is a degree-granting doctoral program. Students in this program can
also participate in CBD activities. There are four Ph.D students currently in
the Bioinformatics Program who are also members of the CBD.
